What is the Buso Tour?

Twenty years ago - in 2005 - one of our members proposed a second weekend away (we've had a February Weekend Away since the mid 1990's) to the Gold Coast in August. That member, Mark Buso led the 2005 and 2006 Gold Coast trips, but unfortunately passed away on Tuesday, 2 January 2007 at the age of 40 from a heart attack induced by a severe bout of asthma.

In 2007 we decided to have a trophy for the Friday game and name it in honour of Mark - and there was the beginnings of the annual Buso Tour. The Buso Tour has now been conducted on 17 occasions - the only two years missed being 2020 and 2021 for fairly obvious reasons. We created a small trophy to be contested on the first game of the weekend - the winner gets the honour of paying for their own plaque and keeping it until the next year's event.

By 2010, many of the participants felt that three consecutive games of golf was a bit tough, so we started going to the Gold Coast Races on the Saturday. Those who weren't gamblers were free to have a casual game of golf or do whatever took their fancy. A couple of years ago, we changed another aspect of the tour. Instead of getting up at 4.00am on the Friday morning to get to the airport for a 6.05am flight to the Gold Coast - then get on a bus and be playing golf at 10.30am and getting to our hotel around 6.00pm - completely shattered, we thought it would be smarter to travel up on the Thursday afternoon. It seems to work better.

What about the cost?

Let's be up front here - this is not a cheap weekend away. You have to include airfares, accommodation, transport, meals, golf and the Races.

BUT IT IS ENJOYABLE!

Here's a rough cost breakdown:

AIRFARES
$300 - $400 return dependent on the airline

The expectation is that you will book and manage your own airfares - you will be advised as to the best flight options open to you.

ACCOMMODATION
$120 - $130 per person per night twin share (including a buffet breakfast)

$160 - $170 per person per night in a single room

TRANSPORT
Depending on the numbers participating we will either hire a 12 seater Coaster bus (or maybe 2) or alternatively arrange for a coach to collect us each day.

$90 - $130 per person

MEALS
Breakfast is included - all other meal costs are at your discretion. The Mermaid Waters Hotel has a Steak House which is reasonably priced

Around $150 - $200 per person

GOLF
We try and play at reasonably priced golf course and all bookings generally will include access to a shared cart.

Around $100 - $130 per game

GOLD COAST RACES
In 2024 and 2025, the Gold Coast Turf Club offered a deal for the Skyline Restaurant which overlooks the Finish Line.

A four course luncheon cost $135 and the Gold Drinks Package (available from 11.30am till 5.00pm) was $100. It is not known at this time whether those prices will rise in 2026.

ROUGH TOTAL

Around $1200 - $1400 plus of course discretionary spending

What if I am interested?

While the next Buso Tour is not happening till next August, you can register your interest now - and if it suits you - start putting some money aside each month to reduce the financial burden in July 2026.

In order to keep the process manageable, we won't accept new names after 30 June 2026.

Simply click on the button shown below to complete the Expression of Interest form and if you indicate that you wish to start making instalments, you will be sent the banking details to do so. Should you decide that you can't make the trip, the monies paid in by you will be returned in full.

There are a couple of conditions that would need to be met to get a full refund.

Every registered participant will be advised prior to the various elements of the tour being booked, ie: Accommodation will be booked in late June, but it is likely that changes and withdrawals can be made up to a week in advance. Bookings for the Races will be made about 6 weeks out and whilst the Turf Club has been very generous in providing a full refund in the past, this is not guaranteed.

Please note that the Tour is open to members of the Miranda Social Golf Club and friends of members. It is not an official game of the Club and no financial support is provided by the club.
